By popular demand of almost everyone who has seen Richard Bailey (A.K.A. Proem) play live... n5MD and Proem have teamed up yet again to bring you his first live disc. Recorded at a live show in his homebase of Austin TX , this seamless reworking of original mixes and remixes shows why Proem is one of the current shining stars of the genre. A highly recommended release if you’re a fan lush glitched-up electronica.

grooves

Sony may have killed off minidisc duplication but the n5MD label is plunging forward anyway, damn the torpedoes — and bless 'em for that, folks, because this disc is about as good as live electro dubs get. Performed in November 2002 and punched directly to minidisc, Richard Bailey's LiveMDset at Austin's Crossproduct 3 sounds as fresh and tight today as when it was first made. The first nine minutes warm up the listener, Bailey's trademark shimmering rhythms building halfway into the dark, booty-shaking "little_a", mutating clicks and whirrs cradling the track's core melodic phrase as it echoes and loops into decay. "Sleep is for Lunch" transitions to harsher, more acidic states, a bleak but hypnotic cut that ends in a static-filled composition. "Untitled." begins as a brighly-lit, ethereal synth piece that jumps right into a exuberant, glitchy dancefloor beat pattern, finally folding into its less organized twin "Untitled..". The disc closes with the nimble programming of rolling clicks and bass in "And Sweet I Mean", punching in building layers of heavenly, syrupy chords and melancholy-tinged electric piano for a very satisfying finish. LiveMDis a brilliant, head-nodding work and an absolute must-have for fans of Proem and all-around, dark, crunchy IDM.
cyclic defrost

Richard Bailey (AKA Proem) opens with an expansive yet hypnotic looping ambience that invites mental images of the large dark spaces and flickering visuals that are most likely his live domain. This is in some ways a mix CD although without prior knowledge of Proem’s work I don’t know how much it differs to the original tracks. But who cares when you get such a seamless and evocative dark landscape populated with elegant swirling mists of sound, enticingly fat breakbeat clicks and kicks, and sequencer lines that slither around your hips. It flows well, with well-timed progression and movement . although it did sag a little for me in the middle during the 13-minute Sleep is for Lunch. And it doesn’t quite lift off again before he drops the pace for And Sweet I Mean . Otherwise this is a very effective ad for the Proem live experience and one that I would far rather have paid my precious dollars to see that a certain Twin I saw not so long ago. Best played loud in the dark with enough space between your furniture to enable unhindered bodily gyration. Better still, get a friend to waves a torch at you at the same time.

today we have new label for observation with their releases. a couple of latest releases of label n5md will be placed under the lens. first for observing it will be proem’s album livemd. and as we can see from the name of this release, this is live album, but unfortunately not released on minidisc that was the intention of the label. richard bailey aka proem here offers his seamless reworking of original mixes and remixes as live set recorded on minidisk in his homebase of austin tx. it is release brimmed with blocks of looping, hypnotic, intensifying chords. ebbs and flows of dark fluid ambiences are waving supported with fat, deep bass and break rhythm. hums and glitchy electronics are interrupting into all that just to fulfill the melancholic and crunchy atmosphere. layers of sound are placing one over another into heavenly combination with repetitive kicks and clicks that keeps you frozen during the whole release. all tracks are mixed together into entire dark soundscape that drives you all the time. completely hypnotic. i can just imagine how this set will function if you see it live in real. amazing of course.
